Presenting the 2020-2021 Sustainability Report

We invite you to learn about the philosophy and actions of these last two years of our sustainability journey, proud to have a lot of positive news, with the main one becoming certified as a B Corp company.

Las Balsas is a small hotel inspired in the tradition of the art of hospitality. We are celebrating the 27th years been proud memeber of Relais & Chateaux (the first in Latin America) so we set ourselves a long-term goal: to maintain our hallmark of been Ambassador of Patagonia and adding the path of sustainability into our DNA, with the particular vision of “creating a more human world”.

What happened during these two years?

In this complex period of the pandemic, critical for the world and for tourism in particular, at Las Balsas we managed to maintain the team and generate an active internal transformation towards a positive footprint: reaffirming, improving and adjusting processes and convictions.

The greatest learning was discovering that sustainability has a human dimension.

In this two-year journey, we certified as a B Corp (we became the first Relais & Chateaux in the world as B Corp certified) and we had calculate the CO2 footprint and we proof that we are Net Carbon Neutral, offsetting the emission through our own Natural Reserve of Native Forest, which now belongs to the “Red de Reservas Naturales”. of the NGO Aves Argentinas. Our staff is stable and the vast majority of suppliers are SMEs and locals.

What’s next, is to make strategic links with responsible agencies and providers, promote actions with our guests and motivate other hotels to join us.

How to read our document

Through the sustainability report, we set out to communicate a very detailed technical report, which supports the path taken from studies, measurements and basic data of our actions. It resulted in an “intense” and concise 86-page document.

In turn, we develop more specific Study Cases notes on our Blog and on Linkedin, which we invite you to read and make suggestions.

Lastly, we are open to any suggestions and queries directly through our “Sustainability Department”.
